Brookhaven at Lexington

Brookhaven

Originally built in 1988, Brookhaven embarked upon a major repositioning project with the goal to improve the community services and amenities offered to current residents and to attract future residents. The resulting campus expansion project provides 48 new Independent Living apartments, expansion and improvements to the Assisted Living and Long-Term Care community, and renovations to all common areas.

In planning the campus expansion the design team sought to maintain as much of the natural landscape as possible and to integrate the new building elements comfortably into the existing architecture. Careful attention to scale, massing and detailing allow the new Independent Living building to fit naturally into the design of the original master plan. An existing pond, reconfigured to provide room for the Independent Living building, offers a focal point along the drive to the new building entrance. A covered bridge integrates the community by connecting the main facility to individual cottages at the top of the hill.

The campus revitalization plan reflects the community’s commitment to the health and wellness of the residents. The assisted living and healthcare programs have been expanded and updated to support the community’s continuum of care. Promoting a healthy and social lifestyle the project includes a state-of-the-art fitness center including weight training, exercise machine, and aerobic exercise rooms, and a new pool building. Additional amenities include new artist studios, café, and bistro-style dining. A new learning center perpetuates Brookhaven’s commitment to continuing education through means of internet-assisted distance learning.
