Brookhaven, Expansion 2
DiMella Shaffer’s relationship with Brookhaven began in 2003 with the design of the first major expansion on the 26-acre campus in Lexington, Massachusetts. The resulting campus expansion project included adding a new 48 unit independent living – Harvard apartment building, renovations to all common areas, and expansion and improvements to the Assisted Care and Long-Term Care facility.
With the recent acquisition of an additional 6 acres to the north of its current campus, Brookhaven once again engaged DiMella Shaffer to design a campus expansion that reflects the community’s commitment to the health and wellness of current and future residents. The project includes development of the Wellesley building, with 42 new independent living apartments ranging from 1,200 to 1,700 SF in size constructed over an enclosed parking garage. An expansion to the existing Commons building accommodates 30 additional Assisted Care apartments in households of 15 units and a corresponding renovation of the Skilled Nursing Facility reduces the Long Term Care center from 49 to 12 beds. Additionally, resident commons areas will be renovated and expanded with a new fitness center, pool, and performing arts hall.
